Alexis Butterfield

I am a Landscape painter & masterplanner based in Liverpool. I began painting in my 50’s in 2024 and am a VAO 2026 international finalist. My work is the outcome of twin fascinations. These are sense of place and history, and the construction of that sense in art. I focus on elemental relationships that make places and memories, referring to these as components of place. I combine painting with drawing, stencilling, collage. I build surfaces in stages - dismantling, reassembling & layering. What emerges is a construction. I am making somewhere, that is about somewhere.
